Rocky Point Fishing Beach

Ingrid Parchment with the Caribbean Coastal Area Management (C-CAM) Foundation shows us the colorful sights at this local fishing beach. Rocky Point Fishing Beach is one of the largest in Jamaica. Fishing boats are docked on either side. The local fishermen use the boats with small motors and small crews at sea. The sheds on the shore are used by the fishermen to store their gear and sometimes their catch in freezers until it is sold. All the boats are named and have a registration number from the Fisheries Division.

At the far distance are mangroves which help to protect the people who live on the shore from damage when hurricanes come in.
