| The ecological and historical signficance of this lagoon was recognized early and in the 1970's it was declared a forest reserve. It became illegal to cut any trees on the slope above the lagoon to reduce any impacts of erosion on the hillside to the lagoon. This area remains very green and pristine and is one of the famous attractions in Port Antonio. It is a mixture of fresh and salt water.
The Blue Lagoon is also the site for the movie of the same name. Visitor and restaurant facilities are available nearby.
